Therapeutic Approach

A New Day by Briana Brown_edited.jpg

An Integrated and Centered Approach.

I draw from Relational Life Therapy (RLT), Gottman Method, Gestalt Therapy, CBT and IFS, along with training in trauma, attachment, hypnotherapy and brain-spotting. I integrate these approaches in a warm, relational way to meet each client where they are.

An Eclectic, Research-Aligned Approach

My approach is intentionally eclectic. Over the years, I've learned that no single modality fits every person or every moment. Research shows that each therapeutic approach has strengths and limitations depending on what a person is facing and where they are in their readiness for change. This is why I blend tools from multiple modalities.

It allows me to respond to you - not a formula. I've seen how transformative this flexibility can be and when therapy adapts to your needs, your pace and your story, it creates space for real, lasting change.

My Assessment Approach

An Integrated and Centered Approach.

I use a bio-psychophysiology-spiritual approach because research shows that our mental health and sense of happiness are shaped by many interconnected factors - our biology and nervous system, our thoughts and emotions, our relationships and family patterns, our environment and our sense of meaning or spirituality.

When we begin working together, we explore all of these layers gently and at your pace. We look at what has brought you strength in the past, what brings you comfort or joy now and where you may feel disconnected or depleted.

For some people, happiness has been hard to access for a long time, and therapy becomes a place to slowly rebuild it. For others, it's about rediscovering the things that once lit your spark or creating new pathways for creativity, movement and social connection - all of which have powerful healing effects on the body and mind.

Couples Therapy

In Couples work, I draw heavily from Relational Life Therapy (RLT) and Gottman Method to help partners interrupt old patterns, communicate more effectively and reconnect with honesty and compassion.

Whether you're navigating conflict, disconnection, blended family stress, intimacy concerns, or major life transistions, we work together to create new relational patterns that support closeness, respect and repair

Identity and Life Transistions

Life transitions have a way of shaking our sense of identity - sometimes in powerful, unexpected ways. Even positive changes can leave us feeling unsteady or disconnected from who we thought we were. Other transitions bring grief, loss or a sense of being "thrown off course".

Shifts in family dynamics - parenting, blended families, aging parents, changing roles, or relationship strain - can also deeply impact how we see ourselves. Whether you're navigating changes in health, relationships, work, family roles, menopause, or major life transitions, we can explore how these experiences are shaping your identity and help you reconnect with a grounded, authentic sense of self.

Therapy is one hour a week - a meaningful hour, but just one. Most of the real change happens in the spaces between our sessions: in the small choices you make, the insights you sit with and the new patterns you begin to practice. Sometimes the work isn't about how overwhelmed or "messed up" you feel, but about how ready you are to take small, intentional steps when the time is right.

Talking is important - it's the director of the process. It helps us understand what's happening inside you, why certain patterns keep showing up and what needs care, attention, or strengthen. But talking alone isn't the whole journey. Realistic change requires changing something, even in small ways. It helps you build awareness, slow things down and begin to see, assess, pause and respond in ways that align more closely with your authentic self - The person beneath the adaptive strategies.

This is where the Bio-Psycho-social Spiritual approach becomes powerful. Implementing even one small shift in each area - Something for your body, something for your mind, something for your environment and something for your sense of meaning or connection - Can be surprisingly transformative. These changes don't have to be big or dramatic; often , it's the smallest, most doable steps that create the greatest movement.

In our work together, you can expect warmth, collaboration and a pace that feels safe and sustainable. You'll never be pushed before you're ready - But when you're ready, we'll build changes that support long-term healing and a deeper sense of groundedness, joy and connection.

If you're ready to feel more grounded, connected and supported - Or if you're simply curious about what healing could look like - I'd be honoured to walk alongside you.

Reach out when you're ready,

Mary Lee
